Make Your Own Oat Milk!

Writer's picture: Ruth HarrisRuth Harris

I have a protein smoothie nearly every day. I have found them to be a great post work out drink, that I pack with as much nutrition as possible. The basis for the smoothie is some kind of plant based milk. I was buying these at least twice to three times a week. This was getting a little costly- but the crisis came when I opened the frig and realized I was out of milk!! I quickly thought about the rolled oats I had in the pantry and wondered about making my own. After a quick google search I found an easy recipe, and that was it- I will no longer be buying costly milks when it is so super easy (and economical) to make my own!

Here is the recipe I use from the loveandlemons.com website:

1/2 C. Rolled Oats (not the quick kind)

3 C. filtered water ( Coconut water, etc.)

2 tsp. Pure Maple Syrup

1/2 tsp. Real Vanilla

1/8 tsp. Salt

Blend in blender - 30 sec, oats can get gummy so not any longer

pour through a fine wire mesh sieve into a jar ( I strain twice)

Done!! Its that easy!!

Benefits of making your own : Empowerment ( I did it!!)

Healthy: no preservatives or stabilizers

Economical

Benefits of Oat Milk- high levels of protein and fiber promoting fullness and stabilizing blood sugar

helps promote good cholesterol levels

rolled oats naturally contain good vitamins and minerals such as iron, folate, zinc, copper, phosphorus, magnesium, vitamin B and thiamine
